Northland Caps Intern Experience- Michaela Santana

Walking in on January 9th, my first day interning at Vino Pair, was a moment I would never forget. I was excited, curious, and nervous all at the same time. Plus, driving in a cave to get there made it all the more thrilling. I didn’t know what to expect from a wine and cheese pairing company, especially because I didn’t have much background knowledge particularly in that area. But nevertheless, I was determined to learn all that Mike and Mindy had to offer.

It has been fascinating learning what happens behind the computer screen of an online business.  I never realized just how much work needs to be put in place to get a business up and rolling. Working with Vino Pair has really gotten my foot in the door of the business world. I’m thrilled to be taking my experience here to college with me in August. Knowing now what field I want to pursue in college has been such a weight lifted off my shoulders. This internship is hands on and forces you to be creative and think outside of the box, something you cannot learn in a normal high school setting.

I never thought I would be learning so much about wine only at 18. I like to say I’m getting ahead of the game so that when I turn 21 I’ll already know that a Gruner Veltliner will pair perfectly with some sushi.

Simply put, my internship has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve learned important fundamentals of business ownership in just a short amount of time. Although this is serious business, it’s been an enjoyable learning experience. I continuously look forward to coming in for the day to see what new task has been assigned for me to tackle.

I’m extremely lucky to have been able to work with individuals that truly and wholeheartedly love what they are doing. It makes you think anything is possible when you dedicate hard work and time into something you love and believe in.

I can’t wait to share my experience with friends and family. I will never forget the business that gave me the opportunity to learn and grow at a young age. Thank you Vino Pair.
